Gestalt oriented intervention

According to Gestalt Therapy, in a person with disability for whom the development of his own consciousness is prevented, the spatial/temporal frame and the emotional/cognitive flow are fragmented.

Phenomenological Approach

The Phenomenological Approach refers to a rigorously descriptive and non-interpretative attitude which helps understanding the being as it reveals itself, going beyond quick judgements. This peculiar way of encountering a person with disability shapes the different stages of the intervention process, starting from the initial assessment aimed to develop a detailed map where the cognitiveneuropsychological functioning, the social relational abilities, along with the individual, family and community resources are described.

Theory of the person

During the intervention, progress is monitored and the relational processes happening in the therapist (operatore)/person with special needs field are described. On the basis of those data, hypothesis on the behaviour and the inner world of the person are developed; those hypothesis are later confirmed or rejected on the basis of the data further collected. Confirmed hypothesis merge together into a so called Theory of the Person which explain current dynamics and predict the future ones.

Contact as an intervention tool

According to the G.A.D. approach, the relationship between the therapist (operatore) and the person with disability is the essential core of the intervention. When meeting with the person with special needs, the therapist (operatore) must be able to notice any time his spontaneity is blocked and therefore provide the specific support required to reactivate the interrupted process. This intervention from the therapist (operatore) aims to reduce the fragmentation of the relational intentionality and helps the person to have a better, full and nourishing contact with his environment.
